Twenty-two stones and a complete plan.
D-Dyla.n is a first-person tragicomic novel set in Cowell, an oyster town on Franklin Harbour, South Australia. Dylan is twenty-five, lives with his grandmother, and speaks with a stammer the title already carries.
He keeps a ledger in his head, and the ledger is his method: a five-dollar sale is proof, a laugh is free advertising, a lost bet is a site inspection. The town keeps its own book, behind the bar, and the two accounts do not agree.
The town has seen his ventures before; this one is twenty-two green stones. He has costed everything except the harbour at the end of the street, which he has kept his back to for years.
Twenty-two stones and a complete plan.
The problem was the sum, not the stones.
